Lab Technician
We are seeking a dedicated Lab Technician to join our team at pilot processing plant/HQ at Ionic Mineral Technologies in Provo, UT, focused on materials manufacturing. In this role, you will be crucial in performing essential characterization analyses that support our research, development, and production efforts
Responsibilities:
As a Lab Technician, you will be responsible for conducting a variety of analytical tests on clay mineral samples. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Prepare and analyze various samples (raw materials, in-process, and finished products) using a range of laboratory equipment and established procedures.
- Instrument Operation & Maintenance: Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of analytical instruments, including (not limited to):
- X-ray Fluorescence (XRF): Perform elemental analysis to determine the chemical composition of samples.
- X-ray Diffraction (XRD): Conduct structural analysis to identify crystalline phases and mineralogical composition.
- Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA): Measure changes in mass with temperature to assess thermal stability and composition.
- Particle Size Distribution (PSD) Analyzers: Determine the size distribution of particles in various samples.
- Surface Area Measurement Instruments: Measure the surface area of materials.
- Accurately record, interpret, and report analytical results. Identify trends and anomalies in data.
- Assist in the development, validation, and optimization of new and existing analytical methods.
- Ensure all analyses are performed according to established quality control procedures and maintain instrument calibration and performance checks.
- Manage laboratory consumables and reagents, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage.
- Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Be willing to learn, self-starter attitude, and master new analytical techniques and equipment as the needs of the pilot plant evolve.
- Work collaboratively with Process Operators, Engineers, and R&D personnel to provide timely and accurate analytical support.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
- Proven hands-on experience with characterization techniques is essential, including:
- Elemental analysis using X-ray tools (e.g., XRF, XRD).
- Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA).
- Particle Size Distribution (PSD) analysis.
- Surface Area Measurement.
- Strong understanding of basic laboratory principles and practices.
- Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- A strong willingness to learn new methods and adapt to evolving laboratory needs.
- Commitment to maintaining a high standard of safety and quality in all laboratory work.
- Willing to relocate
